Ever since telemarketing was introduced to the market place as a viable form of direct sales marketing, its demise has been predicted. However, despite all of the naysayers the notorious form of marketing is still around and still providing excellent, measurable marketing strategies for businesses around the world. Telesales have not only survived, but the industry has virtually exploded in recent years with the push by big business to streamline their operations and to keep things simple. In fact telemarketing companies are no longer the boiler rooms that they used to be, instead they are now considered fine places to work, that pay decently and provide their employees with good benefits.
Telemarketing did hit a rough spot in the early 1990s when the internet first really started getting a foothold on people’s minds and imaginations. By the time the virtual world became a commonplace phenomenon in people’s lives, the telesales industry was forced to examine itself and adapt to the changing market place. Telemarketing companies did an admirable job of tweaking the telesales services that they offered clients and the industry went from being one of direct sales to something much more comprehensive. Today, not only do telemarketing companies offer outbound calling, but they will handle inbound calls, take care of lead generation, market research and they will act as a call center for a company if so needed. Some telemarketing firms will even offer the services of a virtual assistant.
Another very good reason for why telemarketing will be around for a very long time, is that it works. Despite its intrusive nature and the complaints people got from customers who were disturbed during their supper hours, telemarketing is able to produce measurable results. Not only do you get instant feedback from your client base, but because of more targeted marketing techniques, there is also a much higher rate of success with the calls
